Course 1

Young People’s Participation — The Facilitators Project

This highly engaging and innovative 6-module online course provides practical and conceptual tools to adults who work with children. The course explores best-practice methods to support transformation towards meaningful involvement of young people. It also explores the social, legal and conceptual significance of young people’s participation from the perspectives of social and emotional health and wellbeing, culture, law, social justice and young people’s engagement with environments and peers.

Participants will learn the practical use of futures foresight tools for transformative intergenerational collaborations with young people. We explore how real challenges that young people and those who work with young people face can be the starting point for foresight transformation. This PD training will benefit organisation leaders, educators, health workers, youth and social workers, carers, out-of-home carers and those working with young people in community and cultural bodies.

What a game-changer. The Young People's Participation Course provides in-depth and nuanced understanding of the historical and current context of young people’s participation in decision-making. With a wealth of research behind it, it also gives clear, fun and practical guidance on how we can step into an ever more inclusive future that values and embraces genuine authentic participation from young people. As a High School Student Wellbeing Officer, the course has given me the confidence to step boldly into planning programmes for young people with young people. Utilising the skills and strategies I learned in the course, our school community are now together co-creating our school environment with authenticity and trust as the basis of our relationships. Thank you, Zazie and the Interactions Institute.

Thought provoking and transformative - a must do for anyone working with youth. The course provides a thorough, contextual understanding of the landscape impacting genuine youth participation and builds on this with a host of practical strategies which can be tailored to suit all ages and abilities. I can see how these strategies will help many organizations go beyond tokenistic youth involvement and open conversations to garner effective and collaborative youth participation, ensuring youth have an active voice in the future the are set to inherit.
